Sequoia national park is a HUGE park about a three hour drive from LA. We spent a weekend there since my parents were visiting and it was an amazing experience. We went to buy tents, mattresses and a big cooler the day before as well as food, and by the time we left Santa Monica, the car was fully loaded.
When we arrived in Sequoia (close to Three Rivers) we put the tents up on the campsite, and went to have a look around. The campsite was beautiful, and very convenient set up with space for your car, tents, a picnic table, fire pit and bathrooms. You always had to make sure not to store any food in your car or tent, and lock everything into a cupboard in order to not attract any bears. We were lucky enough to spot one bear while we were out exploring. It was a beautiful black bear, who just minded his own business.
It was a perfect place to go for long walks in the forest, take a swim in the (ice cold, but refreshing) river, as well as have a look at the worlds largest trees such as the famous General Sherman tree. For breakfast, lunch and dinner we would sit by the campfire and barbeque. At night, you could spot a beautiful sky filled with stars.
Sequoia is the perfect place to go for some peace in mind and to experience nature at it’s best.
