Green Bee Smoothie

Inspired by a delicious smoothie I had on a recent trip to Maui, I came up with this recipe. It taste so great, and is propped full of protein and vitamins. This smoothie will give you an energy kick!

Bee pollen is said to be one of the most complete foods out there. It contains more protein than most foods, free amino acids, vitamins and folic acids. Due to its very high nutritional content it’s a great natural energizer.

That being said, if you’re not used to consuming bee pollen, it’s smart to start with a smaller portion (for example 1/4 tsp) and then gradually increase. This is in case an allergic reaction occur.

Spirulina is also a great source of protein, amino acids, vitamins, omega 3-6-9 as well as other beneficial nutrients.

Ingredients

1 cup kale (about one handful)
1/2 frozen banana
1 cup mango (fresh or frozen works)
1 tbs spirulina
1 tbs bee pollen
1 cup almond milk (or other milk such as coconut milk)

Blend and enjoy 🙂

A great start to the day

Waking up early comes with many perks! Among them are beautiful sunrises. I love being awake before the sun is up, and watch when it’s rising from our balcony.

Watching the sunrise followed by a delicious smoothie gave me lots of energy to start the day.
I got some guava fruit at the farmers market the other day and had not tried it before. They are delicious and packed with vitamins.
In this smoothie I had frozen pineapple and mango, banana, guava fruit and some water. Tastes amazing!

Healthy key lime pie smoothie

This smoothie is super for summer, it has the perfect balance between sweet and sour and has a creamy consistency thanks to the avocado. It tastes just like key lime pie, but it’s full of nutritional goodness. A must try!! 🙂

What you need:
(makes 2 portions)

1 avocado
2 big handfuls of spinach
5 large soft dates, pitted (I used mejool dates)
1 banana
3-4 limes (I used 3 large limes)
2 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk (or whatever milk you prefer, if it doesn’t have vanilla, just add 1/2 tsp pure vanilla)

What you do:

Squeeze the juice out of the limes and add everything into a blender. Blend until you have a creamy smoothie.

I used the nutri bullet blender/mixer, which is the best blender I have ever tried. It’s also great for nut butters, nut flour etc. You can get it here.

Note:
You can add a few ice cubes to the blender or use a frozen banana if you want an ice cold smoothie.

This is more like a meal in itself, so I do not recommend having it next to your lunch or dinner.

Some nutritional information:

Lime is a great source of vitamin c as well as antioxidants, which helps strengthen our immune system.

Dates contains a lot of potassium which is good for building muscles and for our metabolism. It’s also a source of magnesium, which helps regulate blood pressure and muscle and nerve functions.

Spinach is rich in vitamin A, which is great for our skin and eyes. It also provides us with iron, fibre, calcium, manganese, etc. In other words, spinach is great for our health!

Avocado has lots of healthy fats, amino acids, fiber and antioxidants. This is for example great for our skin and hair.
